Metal Gear Sonnets is a sonnet sequence retelling the story of the 1998 PlayStation game, Metal Gear Solid.

On Shadow Moses Island, a black-ops mission unfolds again, but this time in fourteen-line bursts. Metal Gear Sonnets replays the iconic game as a formally inventive sequence that moves through CODEC calls, boss battles, hostage scenes and end credits, letting lyric tenderness and brutal comedy share the same frame.

These poems break and remake the sonnet again and again: concrete text, glitch-speech, footnotes, and sudden turns into the real world asking what we save, what we repeat, and what we call heroism when the controller is in our hands.

Laurie Eaves is the third best poet called Laurie in London, and his work has been published by Bad Betty Press, Burning Eye, fourteen poems, Fawn Press and Shooter amongst others. He co-hosts the Dead Darlings podcast and hosts / produces Genesis Poetry Slam, Genesis Poetry Workshop, Homebrew Poetry and the Vogon Slam.
